Meet the Team

WHO WE ARE

We are a small training company, based in the heart of South Devon. We have been established for over 20 years, and have been an Accredited Centre with OCR for the Advice & Guidance suites of qualifications since 2006.

For us, size and location do not present any barriers, working from Sussex & London across to Gloucestershire and down to Cornwall – as well as everywhere in-between. We work with organisations ranging from small local community organisations right through to International Companies, Local Authorities and Government Departments. We are able, as a company, to draw on this depth of experience to provide focussed solutions tailored to employers, and individuals, needs.

Jo has worked within the training field for over 25 years, and prior to that with stints in the recruitment and employment fields. A significant proportion of her time has been involved in the provision of advice & guidance, or training staff to deliver advice & guidance. Jo has significant experience of working with vulnerable individuals (e.g. within a prison environment) through to Senior Managers (Redundancy/Resettlement programmes). Jo is a very experienced, and fully qualified, Trainer, Assessor and Internal Quality Assurer (IQA)

Richard also has over 25 years experience within the training field - as a Trainer, Assessor and in a variety of management roles - as well as working within secondary education to promote the Work Related Curriculum. Richard also has a background in sales, as well as having been a technical trainer within the construction industry, most recently including environmental technologies and preparation for CSCS HSE tests.

We also have a bank of experienced freelance Assessors that we work with to ensure the candidate gets the best, and most responsive, service possible.

WHAT WE DO - AND HOW WE DO IT

Our main area of specialism is with the delivery and assessment of Advice & Guidance and Careers qualifications at Level 4 and 6 (Careers Guidance and Development). As a small but very well established Centre with OCR, and with many years experience behind us, we have been able to develop and produce a straightforward approach to these qualifications. The feedback from previous candidates has enabled us, with the support of OCR, to ensure that you are comfortable with undertaking the qualification that will suit both you and your employer.

Some might consider us 'old fashioned' in that we believe training and coaching should take place on a face-to-face basis, this is therefore our preferred choice of deliveries. Where appropriate, and where it best serves the candidate/employer, we can work on a remote basis using tools such as Skype/Teams/Zoom. This is something that we have developed significantly over the lock-down periods.

We sit down, on an individual basis, with each and every candidate to plan their journey - discussing and agreeing the qualification level, training and assessment methods, as well as the timescale for completion to suit the candidates' needs. Time-scales for completion can vary greatly depending on your workload, the support the employer and life in general - but we will give you full control of how and when you wish to achieve both the units and qualification overall. Typical achievement times are 3-6 months, however if approaching the qualification over even a 12 or 18 month time-scale suits your circumstances, we are happy to work at that pace

Unlike some other organisations, our Assessors do not dictate to you when, and how often they will visit (whether you need to see them or not) - the contact frequency is driven by you. Because we specialise in the area of advice & guidance and careers qualifications, we can allow you, the candidate, to work at a pace that suits you, your job and your personal life so you can take charge of how you work through your qualification journey.

We offer unlimited email and telephone support and you will also receive a comprehensive Candidate Support USB Stick or CD ROM full of resources, templates and paperwork which gives you something to refer to when gathering your evidence.

The important thing to remember is that every candidate is different, as is often their job role, and the evidence that they produce can vary significantly. So although you will have the full support of a dedicated Assessor, along with the support of other people (within Bay Training Services, and your workplace) this is YOUR qualification.
